Passage
“He said, “Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you.”” Genesis 22:2 ESV
Reflection
Isaac was the fulfillment of God’s ultimate promise to Abraham. God had made a covenant with Abraham and told him he would be the father of a great nation. After years of waiting, Abraham and Sarah finally have a child who was a fulfillment of God’s promise. Now the Lord has asked for Abraham to lay the promise before Him holding nothing back. We are not sure what is going through Abraham’s thoughts but Abraham’s obedience shows his faithfulness and trust in the Lord.
In life there are things we possess and hold onto tightly. We want to keep them under our possession and in our control. In doing so we keep them out of the control of God’s leadership. These may be a career we hold onto that God has asked for us to give up into His control and set out into a new journey and direction. It may be the things that bring us comfort or seem to give us value, but God is asking us to surrender them and allow him to be our comforter and be the one who brings us value. Whatever we find we hold onto so tightly can become more important than God’s call for our lives. May we let go of all we have and give God full control.
Prayer
Lord today I come to you with open hands and a yielded heart. Take my life and all I have and use it for your glory. I let go of all so you can be my all.
